Turn any topic into a course that actually sticks.

Bruner is an AI tutor. Tell it what you want to learn and what you want to create, and it builds the course around the project — taught through conversation, not lecture. Bruner asks the questions that make you think, and reminds you of what you've learned right before you'd forget.

Built for

  • Self-taught engineers
  • Career switchers
  • Lifelong learners
  • Niche specialists

If you've felt this

You finished 12 courses. You can't ship anything.

You bought the Udemy course. Then a different Udemy course. You did six weeks of Coursera. You bookmarked roadmap.sh. You watched the YouTube playlists. You opened ChatGPT and asked it to explain things, and it explained them beautifully.

And then you sat down to build something on your own — and froze up at a blank editor.

The diagnosis has a name: tutorial hell. The 2026 sequel is vibe-code hell— letting an AI write the code feels productive, and you end up with a working artifact you don't actually understand.

Bruner runs on a different contract: the AI teaches and explains, you do the building. Each lesson only ends when you've used the concept on what you're actually building — not when you've nodded through an explanation.

Three things, done well

Built on what learning research actually says works.

Most apps tell you. Bruner asks. Most apps make you cram. Bruner schedules. Most apps end with a percentage. Bruner ends with something you've built.

The conversation

A tutor that asks instead of tells.

ChatGPT gives you the answer. Bruner asks the question that helps you find it. You'll work harder. You'll learn more. There's a decade of education research behind this — and the difference between hearing an explanation and figuring it out yourself is what survives the year.

my fetch returns undefined but the response prints fine if i log it inside the function
When your function exits, what's it actually handing back — the data itself, or something around it?

The contract

Built around what you'll ship.

Every Bruner course is built backward from a real artifact — a service deployed, a model trained, an essay written. Bring an idea, or pick from suggestions calibrated to your background. No course without a project.

Capstone — AI choose-your-adventure

A solo-player adventure where the AI improvises each scene from your choices. Characters remember what you've done across the story. Player accounts save runs across devices, so you can pick up where you left off.

  • 1. Generating the first scene
  • 2. Streaming token-by-token
  • 3. Structured output with Zod
The memory

Remembers what you forgot.

What you learn this week starts to fade by next month. Bruner schedules each review at the moment you're most likely to forget — five minutes a day, the forgetting curve flattened. The same memory algorithm Anki uses, just nobody asks you to make the cards.

How it works

From “I want to learn X” to a shipped artifact.

  1. 01

Tell Bruner what you want to learn.

    “Professional video game development.”
    “Conversationally fluent Japanese.”
    “Contract law for freelancers.”
Any topic, technical or not. Then a few quick questions: what you already know, how much time you have, why you're doing this.

  2. 02

Pick the capstone — your idea or ours.

Bring an idea you've been sitting on, or pick from suggestions calibrated to your background and your time. Bruner then researches the field — leading programs, current docs, papers, the canonical books — and builds your hyper-personalized course.

  3. 03

You learn by being asked, not told.

Every lesson is a conversation. Bruner asks the questions that make you think. When you stumble, it nudges — it doesn't hand you the answer. You'll be surprised how much more you remember when you had to figure it out yourself.

  4. 04

Reviews show up right when you'd forget.

Bruner schedules a few flashcards each day, timed by what you actually need to revisit. Five minutes. The forgetting curve, flattened.

Use cases

What people use Bruner for.

Three real journeys. The capstone is the spine of each one.

For career switchers

From "I know nothing" to one full-stack thing, shipped.

Jess is a PM who's tried Codecademy twice. Now she actually wants to be an engineer. Bruner doesn't pretend that's an 8-week journey — it scopes the right first capstone: a personal site with a working contact form, frontend + backend + database, deployed at a real URL. Six weeks. After that, the next capstone (auth, then a real CRUD app) is queued up.

Jess · capstone 1 of 4

  • Personal site, deployed
  • Add user auth (next, 4 wk)
  • CRUD app with auth (after, 6 wk)
  • Real-time feature (final, 8 wk)

For upskilling professionals

No longer half a developer.

Marcus is eight years into backend engineering. He can write the code, but the moment something goes to production he hands it off — Docker is "the file the platform team writes," CI is "the thing that's red sometimes," observability is "checking if the alert channel is on fire." He doesn't need DevOps 101. He needs the parts he's been avoiding. Bruner skips what he already does cold, and the capstone is the thing he's been deflecting for years: a service he wrote, containerized, deployed, monitored, and on-call for — by himself.

Marcus · calibration

  • Application code (skipped)
  • Linux basics (skipped)
  • Docker, beyond the Dockerfile
  • CI/CD pipelines that don't lie
  • Observability — logs, metrics, traces
  • Production deploy with IaC (capstone)

For students with a deadline

From the syllabus to the exam, with the actual understanding in the middle.

Jaime has the algorithms midterm in 21 days. DP is melting his brain; he's been LeetCoding without really understanding. Bruner pulls in his professor's slides and the relevant CLRS chapters, builds a 21-day plan, and the capstone is a 30-problem self-test three days before the exam — each one defended in writing, not pattern-matched.

“Isn't ChatGPT Study Mode this already?”

Fair question. Study Mode does ask the right kinds of questions back. But for a serious learner trying to actually master something, three things break:

Same goal"I want to become an AI engineer who can build real AI agents."
ChatGPT Study ModeOpen chat window

“Great! Let's start with what interests you. What would you like to learn first about AI agents?”

  • No syllabus — you wander
  • Remembers preferences, not what you've mastered
  • No spaced reviews — gone in a month
  • Will write the code if you nudge it
  • No defined endpoint — you drift
BrunerCapstone-first course

Translates that into a real plan. You don't have to figure out the path — Bruner sequences it, capstone by capstone. Agent #1 ships in six weeks. Agent #2 builds on what you just learned. By month five, you're an AI engineer who's shipped three.

  • A real syllabus, end-to-end
  • Tracks every concept, every session
  • Spaced reviews, scheduled by performance
  • Won't write the code — you do
  • Ends when you ship, not when you drift

Study Mode is fine for a single question. For a project, it's an open chat window: no syllabus, no mastery tracking, no review schedule, no endpoint. A 2025 Wharton/Penn study found students who used unrestricted ChatGPT to study scored 17% lower on unassisted exams than students who didn't. The MIT Media Lab called what happens “cognitive debt.” Bruner is built on the opposite contract: structured course, productive struggle, spaced retrieval, you build everything.

The science of remembering

And then it makes sure you don't forget.

Most apps make you cram. Bruner schedules each review at the exact moment you're most likely to forget — built from your lessons, calibrated to what you specifically got stuck on.

No cards to write, no schedule to maintain.

So what you understood in week 2 is still there in week 12 — and a year later when you actually need it on the job.

Who Bruner is for

Made for the way you actually learn.

Lifelong learners.

You finish a book and forget half of it by Friday. You bookmark articles you'll never reread. Bruner is the system that finally makes the things you read stick.

Students.

You don't need another flashcard app. You need someone to teach you the material the first time so you understand it — and then make sure you remember it through finals. Upload your textbook. Bruner takes it from there.

Professionals.

You're learning new tools, frameworks, products, processes — constantly. Stop relying on the pieces you happen to remember. Bruner builds the structure that turns scattered context into actual competence.

Common questions

Questions, briefly.

We're also available at hello@withbruner.com.

Is Bruner only for tech and coding?

No. Bruner is built for thinking-heavy subjects — programming, math, science, languages, history, finance, system design, anything where understanding compounds and retrieval practice matters. It's less ideal for hands-on motor skills like piano, pottery, or surgery; fast-moving news; and taste-based crafts like creative voice or design feel. You can still pick anything — results just vary on topics outside those strengths.

How is this different from ChatGPT Study Mode?

Study Mode is fine for a single question. Bruner builds a full course backward from your project, tracks every concept across sessions, schedules spaced reviews, and ends when you ship. ChatGPT forgets your goal between conversations. Bruner doesn't.

What if I don't know what to build?

Tell Bruner the topic and your background. It suggests capstones calibrated to your level — not generic, but "a personal site with a working contact form deployed at a real URL" or "derive attention from scratch and train a small transformer." You pick from a few that fit, or describe your own.

Will the AI do the building for me?

No. That's the point. Bruner explains, asks, hints, and reviews. You build your capstone piece by piece. The capstone is yours — defended in writing, not vibe-coded by an LLM.

What's a capstone for non-technical subjects?

A defended essay, a translated short story, a conversation you can't yet have, a self-test you couldn't yet pass. The capstone is whatever artifact proves you understand the material — and it's something you keep.

What if Bruner gets something wrong?

Every fact and exercise is grounded in research packs that Bruner builds throughout your course — current docs, papers, canonical books. Citations are inline. You're still encouraged to verify important information.

Can I export my flashcards?

Yes, .apkg export is supported. You own your reviews.
